Planting

We planted two avocado seeds. We watered them, put them in the sun and are waiting to see if/when they will sprout.

Building a birdhouse

I decided awhile ago that we would use Fridays for projects, science experiments, music, art, ectera but have not actually done that until today! The kids had sooo much fun building these cute little houses.

Art Lessons

Lily received art lessons for her birthday from Grandma & Grandpa. What a great idea. So her first lesson was Saturday. Here is a sample of her work.
And here she is working hard.

Reading

Our library is running a summer reading program that started this week. They launched it with a treasure hunt in the library which we happened upon by chance. So Lily signed up for the program. You read for 15 minutes each day and colour a shell on the entry form for each day of reading. Every three weeks the kids turn in their form and receive the next installment. For every form turned in they receive a small prize and are entered into a draw for a personal DVD player.
It's really good for Lily to have some outside inducement to read. This morning she read The Very Hungry Bear and The Ear Book with help on only two words!

Piano Lessons

Lily started piano lessons today. This is something that we've been meaning to do for awhile and today we actually did it! So Friday is going to be piano day.

Swim Lessons

Lily's swim lessons finish this week. Where did the month go? She is doing really well. She is so gung-ho swimming with all her might at every lesson. Thursday is the last lesson and hopefully I will have some better photos and I will also be able to post the report from her instructor.
